FINAL WORKSHOP PATIENT PARTNERING IN CLINICAL TRIALS

FINAL WORKSHOP PATIENT PARTNERING IN CLINICAL TRIALS

BRUSSELS 7 & 8 December 2010.

Patient Partner is a European Project investigating, enforcing and advising on the role of patient organizations in clinical trials.

With this Final European Workshop, Patient Partner held its last major dialogue session with all of the involved stakeholders. What is the patients perspective in clinical trials.

There were three working group sessions focusing on ethical principles, building bridges to partnerships and building communication platforms.

The results will be used for completion and for preparing recommendations for the European Commission and local authorities.

The cooperation between stakeholders during the discussions were positive, but my impression was that there is a lot to bridge before stakeholders speak the same language.

I think a lot of thinking has been achieved in a two way approach but only concrete tools will be helpful to disseminate the information. Is it clear enough and transparent to be understood?  Need patient organizations a training to be at an equal level?

To avoid inventing the wheel again we have a positive feeling that if the conditions are realized there could be a better understanding with parties involved in clinical trials.

The concrete outcomes of this workshop will be sent in April 2011.
