Successful advocacy for people with fibromyalgia in Israel
ENFA member organisation, INBAR, shared with us recently some fantastic news as a result of years of advocacy in Israel, lead by Sharon Gur and their advocate Ely Lotan. People with fibromyalgia in Israel will now be eligible for a disability stipend, announced by the National Insurance Institute (NII) in November 2019.
The state will recognise those afflicted with the condition as 50 percent disabled, the NII said, after extensive consultations with patients and healthcare professionals. Data by the Health Ministry and Asaf, the Israeli fibromyalgia association, suggests that some 4% of Israelis – 240,000 people – are affected by fibromyalgia and/or chronic fatigue syndrome.
Congratulations to our colleagues for persevering!
