History:
Our organisation was created in 2003 because a lot of us realized that there was a need to improve the situation of patients of rheumatic diseases in Greece and more specifically on our island. We have been fighting hard to inform the public and the patients themselves about all rheumatic and musculoskeletal illnesses including FIBROMYALGIA by using a variety of means. We have published and distributed leaflets free of charge, organized and held lectures and discussions on RMDs and have invited distinguished scientists to share the knowledge with us and participate on TV talk shows about RMDs. Moreover, we’ve participated in events and written letters to lawmakers and politicians regarding the improvement in our healthcare system.
Objectives:
• To continue raising awareness.
• To improve health care and accessibility to the most efficacious treatments available.
• To continue being active in policy-making procedures.
• To strive for better quality of life for people with RMDs[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”Achievements, Activities and Events:” font_container=”tag:h3|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]THE ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION OF CRETE has done so many things that only a fraction will be mentioned here.
THE SPECIALLY EQUIPPED ROOM for patients at the UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL of CRETE for patients who receive biologics.
Established the annual “HERACLES KRITIKOS” award which is bestowed on a doctor and a patient for their contribution and perseverance.
Every year we have an interesting event on WORLD ARTHRITIS DAY
9 October, 2011 Walk through the center of the city of Heraklion in shirts and hats with the “Move to Improve” logo.
12 October, 2012 A bazaar and information booth at the center of the city of Heraklion, all day.
We also took part in the waving campaign and brought Greece in 2nd place right behind the USA in the number of waves. Our vice-president, Roula Angelidaki Stara was an ambassador and administrator during the WAVING CAMPAIGN.
Every year we (1-3 of us) appear on health talk shows along with rheumatologists to share our experiences and needs.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Expectations from the Network
Because Fibromyalgia is such a mystery disease with no specific test that can show its presence with certainty, we expect to gain a deeper understanding about it and how it can be treated. Furthermore, we hope to collaborate with you so as to secure more funding for research into the causes and treatment of fibromyalgia. We hope that policy makers will view it as a severe enough illness to actually take action against it. The more members ENFA has, the stronger its voice while lobbying in the European Parliament.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
